RIP

British Fashion icon Alexander McQueen commits suicide...
I am devastated...

edit: 9:30p.m.

What a very unfortunate way to start off Fashion Week.

I thought all day about what I would write in my blog post regarding Alexander McQueen's death. My phone blew up this morning with phone calls and text messages about about the news. I honestly did not believe my friend Daniel, who was the first to call and tell me that McQueen had killed himself. When I finally came to the realization that it was unfortunately true, I was crushed. He was an amazing designer to say the least and words can not describe how sad I feel about this. Today I lost someone I looked up to and practically idolized in fashion.

News that I gathered from other blogs that I just don't have the energy to post into my own words...

"News of Alexander McQueen’s death broke right as guests were taking their seats for theBCBG Max Azria runway show Thursday morning. Some in attendance appeared to learn the news before the start of the show, including Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who disappeared momentarily with her BlackBerry while waiting for the show to begin. She returned well before the lights dimmed and whispered to her entourage with a concerned look on her face. She watched the show but ducked out right before the final rundown."- Heard on the Runway

"AS news of Alexander McQueen’s death rippled through the tents of Bryant Park, where the fashion world was gathered Thursday on the first day of the New York collections, there was shock at the loss of a designer of outsize talents, perhaps even genius".- NY TIMES

"We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss."- Anna Wintour
